The Summer Journey

“The greatest Christian is not the one who has achieved the most but rather the one who has received the most. God’s grace, love, and mercy flow through him abundantly because he walks in total dependence.”
~ Jim Cymbala

I love working for a school. One of the reasons is, of course, the time off. Holidays, winter break, spring break, and the beloved summer vacation! I usually have a ton of things planned for these breaks, but this year, I am breaking tradition. While I have a few things planned, I have decided to go at a slower pace and just enjoy the time off without having to travel here, there, and everywhere.

To highlight the things we do in the next six weeks, I will be posting about my summer journey – and here’s why: I want to encourage you to slow down and enjoy the summer as well {even if you have to work}. Today I am kicking it all off with Angie and friends by sharing my Top 10 Reasons you should join me in experiencing the joy of summer!

Ready?

God is in all things – including summer vacation. So why not explore? If he can make the seeds grow in a baggie placed in a window with some cotton balls and water…he can make you grow with some sunshine, family fun, and focus on him.

It is good to slow down and step away from the hustle and bustle of life. When you take time to enjoy the moments, you create memories that will last a lifetime.

Others will see when we are passionate for Christ, filled with enthusiasm and energy. God meant for us to be silly every now and then {or more}.

You may find you have some creative talents hidden inside.

Moving at a slower pace gives you the opportunity to look at things through a different perspective. “If we take just a couple of steps in another direction, what we view as reality is often profoundly changed” (Norman Shawchuck).

You will be able to enjoy the beauty that God created for you to enjoy.

Slowing down gives you the opportunity to be friendly…After all, disciples serve.

You don’t have to just test the water…jump in with both feet! “The way of faith is not always the way of ease and comfort…” (Rueben P. Job).

You are God’s masterpiece. Allow him to shape and mold you.

Take a chance and dare to be different…people will notice!

Seriously, I want you to go on this journey with me. So take a deep breath and ask God to help you slow down in order to accomplish his will.

“Being busy can lead us away from our true vocation and prevent us from drinking our cup.”
~ Henri Nouwen

What are you looking forward to this summer?
